The purpose of the Youth Director position is to administer a developmentally appropriate youth program for children of eligible patrons. Administration includes the direction and operation of a large (200 or more children) School Age Care (SAC) program and/or a Youth Program (YP). A variety of services are provided in accordance with demand and availability
of funding to include programs for children ages 5 years through 18 years such as before and after school programs, summer and vacation camp, open recreation, sports and fitness activities, teen programming, and special events. Activities are responsive to the developmental, recreational, social, psychological, and cultural needs of children and youth.
The Navy Child and Youth Program (CYP) Youth and Family Profile is designed to help CYP Professionals get to know the children, and youth enrolled in our School Age Care programs. The information gathered will be used by CYP professionals to develop relationships and activities to better serve our customers.
The Navy YSF Operating Manual was developed to define, standardize program delivery, and enrich Navy CYP programming Navy- wide. In order to support the implementation of the Navy YSF program, a comprehensive training and assessment plan has been developed to support installation personnel through the process. (Enclosure 1) Programs are required to implement the standards found in the Navy YSF Operating Manual by the end of FY2014.
The Youth Programs Activity Plan & After Action, Rev Jan2022 allows Youth Programs to design and evaluate developmentally appropriate, engaging activities.
The 1700/44a - Youth Programs (Sports) Activity Plan & After Action, Rev Apr2016 allows Youth Programs to complete the activity plan to include description of activity, supplies needed, skills or knowledge learned and if necessary adjustments that can be made to accommodate all children. This form allows for after action evaluation.
Module 7: Creativity and The Arts - Programs and activities connected to creativity and the arts are usually quite popular with youth. Combined with other interests of youth such as technology and science, programming in the arts is a great way for youth to build relationships, life skills and self-esteem.
Module 8: Personal, Character and Leadership Development - Every single day, in every encounter within the Youth Center, you have the opportunity to help promote personal, character and leadership development in youth. This guide will show you the importance of infusing character and leadership opportunities into conversation and program activities.
Module 9: Social and Cultural - During adolescence, peer pressure plays an important role in the development of social skills. Interaction with adults such as parents and Youth Center staff also influences how youth treat each other. This guide will show you how you can help guide youth to appreciate the similarities and differences of others and help youth develop positive social skills.
Module 10: Guidance and Human Relationships - Adult guidance is critical in developing positive relationships with youth and helping them develop self-discipline. This guide will show you the importance of effective guidance and its impact on young people.
Module 11: Families, Schools and Communities - To provide the best possible services to youth, Youth Center staff work alongside families, schools and other community organizations. This guide will show you the importance of developing good relationships with these groups and how to draw upon parents, schools and other community resources to strengthen Youth Center offerings.
